About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Alcohol and Other Drug Service.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse, educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. A transitional Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse employed into a nurse practitioner position who is working towards Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) endorsement. Transitional nurse practitioners do not have the same legislative permissions for autonomous practice as endorsed nurse practitioners and undertake supervised practice with clinical oversight while they work towards endorsement as a nurse practitioner.
The nurse practitioner role includes comprehensive clinical assessment, requesting diagnostic investigations, management of care for patients/clients, prescribing medicines/therapies and includes direct referral of patients to and from other health care professionals. The role:
is grounded in the nursing professions values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care that compliments other health providers. The scope of practice is determined by the context within which the nurse practitioner is authorised to practice. provides leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice by identifying and participating in research, quality, audit and evaluation opportunities, in the provision and development of educational programs, clinical services planning and development of clinical practice standards. is regarded as a senior nursing clinician and resource person for the service and works closely with clinicians and management in the provision of care. manages and cares for patients, families and significant others through utilising models of care that are appropriate, timely and of a high quality which are governed by authorised guidelines/polices. Specifically the Nurse Practitioner within the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service provides:
Access to expert clinical care, support and treatment management for patients regarding AOD issues, including managing an Opioid Treatment Program case load. St Vincent's Alcohol and Drug Consultation Liaison team provides expert clinical care, advice, clinical support and referral to support individuals admitted to the Hospital and Emergency Department to access care, diagnosis, management and treatment of alcohol and other drug related problems. Comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of Alcohol and Other Drug patients using advanced knowledge and skills which may include but not limited to ordering diagnostic investigations, prescribing medicines and direct referrals to other health practitioners, within an individual's scope of practice. Initiates, implements & evaluates care of clients within the individual's scope of practice e.g. prescribes medication. Manages and cares for patients, families and significant others through utilising models of care that are appropriate, timely and of a high quality which are governed by authorised policies, procedures and guidelines. Provides leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice utilising research in the provision and development of educational programs, clinical services planning and development of policies and procedures. Is regarded as a senior nursing clinician and resource person for the service and works closely with clinicians and management in the provision of care. Support for policy, planning and research activities of SVHS Alcohol and Drug Service. Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia
2.Currently registered as a registered nurse with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (APHRA) and endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to practice as a nurse practitioner and has a recognised post graduate tertiary qualification in a Drug and Alcohol specialty.
3.Ability to deliver evidenced based, patient-centred care within a complex environment, autonomously and collaboratively, using advanced and extended clinical skills.
4.Demonstrated high level leadership within the workplace and across external agencies including the ability to form productive working relationships through highly developed communication, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
5.Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance, clinical practice development and current nursing, and alcohol and other drug nursing issues.
6.Demonstrated experience in contribution to nursing research, quality improvement initiatives and policy and procedure development and implementation.
7.Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in daily practice.
8. Demonstrated commitment to own professional development and support of others professional development through leadership, delivery of education and clinical practice support/supervision.
