Position Classification: Staff Specialist Employment Type: Permanent Part Time Hours Per Week: up to 12 About the Role The department is looking to recruit a medical oncologist with clinical experience in the management of patients with gastrointestinal cancer.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in translational research in gastrointestinal cancer and demonstrated interest in the adjunct and supportive care and survivorship care of gastrointestinal cancer patients.
Purpose of the Position The position involves: - 1 - 2 weekly outpatient clinics Management of patients admitted under the medical oncology service in Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) Attending relevant MDTs Liaising with the relevant clinical nurse specialists, facilitating rapid triage of new patients and on-call duties for medical oncology Reviewing patients on clinical trials and assisting with ongoing documentation as per trial protocol. The position provides clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service.
This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Medical Oncology or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Demonstrated senior clinical experience in holistic, comprehensive inpatient care of oncology patients, with references to palliative care. Demonstrated experience in clinical teaching of medical students and junior medical officers including BPTs and Advanced Trainees. Demonstrated experience with outpatient oncology care and clinical trials management. Demonstrated experience as a consultant in gastrointestinal cancer practice in Australia or internationally. Demonstrated interest in the adjunct and supportive care of gastrointestinal cancer patients. Demonstrated experience in translational research in gastrointestinal cancers and Higher post-graduate doctorate qualification to facilitate ongoing translational research in gastrointestinal cancers.
