Applicants should have Fellowship of the RANZCR and/or RACS with subspecialty in Neurosurgery and/or RACP with subspecialty in Neurology or have obtained an appropriate higher qualification in his/her specialty acceptable to the Employer.
For applicants without Fellowship, there is potential to commence as a Provisional Fellow under the Public Hospital Medical Officers Award (Registrar 4th year) and on successful attainment of RANZCR and/or RACS and/or RACP or appropriate AHPRA registration transition to a Post Graduate Fellow.
About the RoleRNSH is one of two foundation INR units in Australia, being part of the initial federal funding grant in 1992.
In 2004, RNSH was funded through the state government as one of two INR centres in NSW, which included the formalisation of this fellowship position.
In 2008, a dedicated INR theatre was opened at Westmead Hospital.
There is a long history of research and publications arising from this unit.
The successful applicant is expected to produce at least one peer review publication per year.
We are proud of our innovations; including the first stent assisted coiling in the world, and the first mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel occlusive stroke in Australia (and we are told second in the world).
Last year about 1400 neuroendovascular procedures were performed by the three INR consultants (in public and private), with 550 of these being interventions.
The position fulfils the requirement for accreditation with the conjoint committee for INR accreditation, ccinr.org.au (although noting 2 years of fellowship are required for CCINR accreditation and this position is advertised yearly).
Also to be noted, CCINR will only recognise training that has commenced after attainment of fellowship of the relevant college.
This position will work across the Royal North Shore Hospital and Westmead INR campuses.
Purpose of the PositionProvide clinical management and treatment of patients undergoing INR procedures at RNSH or requiring INR consultant in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service.
This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
This position is temporary with the possibility of temporary extension based on performance, funding and need.
Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia.
Applicants should have Fellowship of the RANZCR and/or RACS with subspecialty in Neurosurgery and/or RACP with subspecialty in Neurology or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months will be considered.
Applicants with an alternate appropriate higher qualification in his/her specialty may be considered.

Procedural experience including experience in Neurointerventional procedures though not essential is highly regarded.

Excellent written, verbal and multimedia communication skills, in order to interact effectively with patients, referrers, colleagues and other team members.
Excellent academic record commensurate with experience, evidence of on-going learning, teaching activities potential involvement with projects and research publications.
Demonstrated understanding and interest in quality improvement methodologies, commitment to CME, audit, implementation of practice improvement initiatives.
