Northern Biosecurity Strategic Officer – Identified Position Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry – Cairns QLD

Who we are
The Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) is a program of SSG within the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Fisheries which operates across coastal northern Australia from Broome in Western Australia to Cairns in Queensland and includes Torres Strait.
NAQS contributes to the delivery of national biosecurity objectives through:
identifying and evaluating the unique quarantine risks facing northern Australia, developing and implementing measures for the early detection of targeted pests, diseases and weeds, contributing to national and international initiatives relating to pest and disease surveillance.
The Job
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) team.
The successful applicant will:
Deliver strategic policy and funding outcomes that aim to deliver long-term uplift of northern Australia's biosecurity preparedness and management framework as described under the NABS.
Engage with key stakeholder groups (industry, First Nations, government), Identify leverage and funding opportunities, Implement biosecurity awareness and capacity/capability building initiatives.
What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
Understanding of the biosecurity risk profile in northern Australia.
Knowledge of ongoing and emerging biosecurity risks in northern Australia.
Experience in high level strategic policy development and implementation.
Experience in communicating, influencing, and managing change.
Mandatory qualifications
A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in environmental, agriculture or biological science.
The successful applicant must:
Hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers' licence.
