About the role The News Editor is responsible for a variety of editorial, research and support duties to facilitate the collection and processing of content used for the Capital Monitor service. The role is across all public source news & information collected and processed by the Bureau and will also act as a lead Sub-editor to fill in gaps as required.
This role is integral to the Bureau's day-to-day editorial operations for its capacity to ensure various content processing guidelines and deadlines are met and a layer of quality control is applied to content uploaded to the Capital Monitor website. The News Editor will work under the guidance of the Managing Editor to ensure their tasks support the overall team's responsibilities and daily content coverage.
This is a permanent full-time role based in our Canberra office.
Responsibilities This involves but is not limited to:
Playing a central role in the collection, processing & upload of content processed by the sub-editor teamProof-reading & editing content prior to its publication on the websiteDelivering Capital Monitor's premium Instant Email Alerts relevant to client subscriptionsWriting short content pieces as instructed by the Managing EditorFlexible working hours to suit Parliamentary sitting patterns, and Government publishing cyclesProviding general office support as requiredPerforming any other duties reasonably required by the companyRequirements Tertiary qualifications in law, politics, communications / journalism preferred, with other streams and / or proven relevant skills gained through experience also considered.Web design, and / or graphic design skills (highly desirable)Knowledge of government process & parliamentary procedure (preferred)Document management using in-house systemsUsing style guides for writing / editingSocial mediaWork in a way that works for you We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
