Join the Newcastle Human Organoid Program for Effective (NewHOPE) New Therapies team as a Project Manager/Lead Scientist and contribute to a groundbreaking program that facilitates human organoid and primary cell culture research.
Be challenged and imagine with us As the NewHOPE Project Manager/Lead Scientist, you will be leading and coordinating all aspects of patient recruitment, sample collection and processing.
Your expertise in growing and managing organoid cell cultures will contribute to creating a world leading biorepository of organoid, microbiome and tissue samples, helping to revolutionize the future of research.
This involves Overseeing the collection, sampling, and processing of human biopsies and blood for laboratory research.
Leading the development and optimization of cell culture processes.
Managing laboratory operations, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation.
Collaborating with a cross-functional team of scientists and researchers to achieve project goals.
Maintaining detailed documentation of processes, results, and project milestones.
Ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines, safety regulations, and laboratory protocols.
Contributing to the broader mission of the NewHOPE project by advancing non-animal-based research methods.
This fixed term position is full time at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level until December 2026 located at Hunter Medical Research Institute.

Your application must include:  Your resume A cover letter outlining your motivation to apply for this opportunity  A statement addressing the Essential Criteria listed below demonstrating your qualifications and experience with examples.
First class Honours Degree in Biomedical science with at least 4 years subsequent research experience in Biomedical science or a related area; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Extensive experience in a biological laboratory research environment, demonstrating excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Demonstrated expertise (through publication or thesis) of in vitro models of disease, in particular human cell culture, and demonstrated skills in scientific reporting and writing.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and communicate in a multi-disciplinary context.
Ability to show leadership and exceptional interpersonal skills by empowering staff to meet high standards and delivery of targets whilst actively managing performance and KPIs to achieve positive outcomes.
Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA  Experience in industry/regulatory role with experience in data management and record keeping.
Experience with good practice handling of clinical specimens.
