New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.
About the role As part of our ongoing ramp up of underground operations, New Porgera Limited is seeking an experienced Development & Production Charger responsible for underground charging and training, reporting directly to the Underground Mining Superintendent.
Key activities within the role include preparation, planning, and execution of blasting activities, according to the daily plan as we ramp up to 1.8Mtpa Ore across a mix of mining both narrow vein and bulk stoping, with both Rockfill and Paste backfill methods.
You will model safety behaviours, driving a continuous improvement mindset, looking at opportunities to refine operations and find efficiencies in time, plant and people operations and cost in alignment with operational requirements, legislation, statutory regulations, and QA/QC standards.
You will coach and develop the team, ensuring technical competency development and assessment of crews, maintaining the highest safety and housekeeping standards is imperative, working with the teams to assess and manage risk, overseeing safe working including observation and reporting of all safety, health, and environmental incidents, near misses or hazards including property damage and monitoring geotechnical issues accordingly.
NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with a strong ability in delivery to support the mine's successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
About you NPL has a supportive and dynamic culture. You will be a natural self-starter who will bring initiative and ideas to your team, set clear accountabilities and visible leadership with a focus on safety supporting production. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ideally in developing nations.
To succeed in this role, you will have a recognised Australian Blasting licence with extensive experience in a similar position in large underground mining operations utilising Orica Hypercharge/Emulsion, experienced in prepping and charging up-hole stopes, development headings, and striping. While not essential, experience of Sandvik loaders and bogging development headings and clean-ups for development drills is highly desirable.
The position requires a high-energy individual, hands-on management style, and desire to continuously improve you and your team's knowledge and systems and methods of work.
You will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety through proactive interactions, utilizing hazard identification tools, leading reporting, and active participation in safety incident investigations. Prioritizing the well-being of our team and the environment is paramount.
