Location: Pialligo, Australian Capital Territory Type: Contract Job #17397 About the role Our federal government client is seeking an experienced Network Engineer role is a specialist technical role responsible for undertaking the deployment, management and maintenance of a range of networking and cyber-security technologies, including Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco networking technologies.
Key responsibilities Plan, deploy and configure networking and cybersecurity systems, including next-generation firewall (NGFW) technologies to optimise the ability to monitor, detect, prevent and quickly respond to cybersecurity threats Provide expert advice and undertake configuration of networking equipment and systems to strengthen the posture of their research networks Work as part of the network modernisation project team to configure and install new network switch hardware Work as part of the network modernisation project team to support network segmentation initiatives Work as part of the BAU network operations team to support business-as-usual operations of network infrastructure and network security services including responding to incidents and faults.
Skills and experience Minimum of 3 years administering, managing and/or supporting one or more of the following: Cisco Routing and switching (NAC and 802.1x) Designing and implementing Cisco network solutions Configuring and supporting Cisco network equipment including routers and switches Physical installation of routers and switches Configuring firewalls, routing and switching Next-generation firewall (Palo Alto) technologies and ruleset reviews Fault diagnosis Highly desirable criteria Availability management: Level 4 (SFIA): Analyses service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability.
Contributes to the availability management process and its operation.
Performs defined availability management tasks.
Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels.
Implements arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures.
Conducts testing of recovery procedures.
IT infrastructure: Level 4 (SFIA): Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures.
Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates.
Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines.
Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics.
Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure.
Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards.
Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues.
Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.
Problem management: Level 3 (SFIA): Investigates problems in systems, processes and services.
Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
Systems installation and removal: Level 4 (SFIA): Undertakes or supervises complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client.
Develops procedures and standards for installation and handover to maintain and improve the installation service.
Schedules installation work around client priorities and resource availability.
Ensures adherence to established safety and quality procedures.
