About the OPPORTUNITY We have an exciting opportunity for a Network Engineer to join our Hunter Class Line of Business, based at Osborne SA reporting to the Network Technical Lead.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
You will work within the Networks and Computing Infrastructure team as part of the wider Combat Systems Integrated Product Team (IPT) on the Hunter Class Frigate Program.
Shared Infrastructure (SI) is a broad ICT system on the Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) platform, providing a shared computing environment, active network infrastructure, operator consoles and their enclosures, and delivery of infrastructure services to hosted systems.
The Blown Fibre system is a structured fibre cabling arrangement throughout the HCF platform that provides the backbone for SI networks, as well as point-to-point connections as required.
This role would suit a recent graduate, a network or ICT engineer looking to develop within the systems engineering discipline, or a systems engineer with experience or interest in network and computing systems.
Key responsibilities include: * Support the Networks Technical Lead and SI Engineering Manager to develop the SI and Blown Fibre solution for the HCF platform * Assist in the development of the active and passive network infrastructure design * Record and maintain network design configurations using internal tools and processes * Produce and maintain cable schedules, liaising with key stakeholders as needed * Assist in maintaining the design and its documentation in accordance with configuration management, change management and traceability processes * Support the development of SI and Blown Fibre interface and service use specifications * Contribute to Agile and Scrum activities including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives About YOU * Bachelor's degree in ICT or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred * Background in network and computer systems, including the design, installation and configuration of network and computing infrastructure * Previous experience as a network or ICT systems administrator/engineer * Basic understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models * Basic understanding of switching and routing protocols * Knowledge of Systems Engineering practices, or willingness to learn * Familiarity with security standards and frameworks (e.g.
ISM, PSPF) highly regarded * Experience or interest in naval platforms and/or combat systems highly regarded * Relevant industry certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, ASEP are highly regarded * Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, both written and verbal * Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and geographical locations * Excellent logical and analytical problem solving skills * Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain * Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes.
