is looking to hire highly motivated Network Development Engineers for our Network Operations team to drive the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks and to discover innovative ways to and scale our network as we expand.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of technical leadership and success in driving complex issues to resolution, autonomously and/or collaboratively. The successful candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of network engineering, concepts and theory. They will have experience managing proactive engineering, network optimization and operational network support for a large-scale service provider or enterprise environment. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality network event management for Amazon's worldwide network. As a technical leader, he/she will manage complex stakeholder relationships, both technical and management. Provide critical network operations support to customers to diagnose and respond to large-scale eventsContribute to operational on-call rotating rosterSupport and maintain our next generation networksDeliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processesPartner with our broader Technical Operations organization to reduce operational burdenWork closely with our Network Engineering & Deployment teams to ensure operational readiness for new deploymentsDrive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policiesParticipate and drive impact mitigation during large-scale events utilizing an established Event Management processDrive event deep dives for large-scale events, deliver high-quality documentation for the events and drive corrective actions to completionImprove our detection mechanisms by designing and implementing new alerts.Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues and ability to effectively engage with mid and senior-level engineering teams for full resolutionCreate and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.Troubleshoot interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low level application interactionIdentify and drive opportunities to repeatable tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and toolsEffectively contribute towards hiring and developing others in the team.Key job responsibilities
Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
Provide critical network operations support to customers to diagnose and respond to large-scale eventsContribute to operational on-call rotating rosterOperate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools.Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.Participate and drive impact mitigation during large-scale events utilizing an established Event Management processDrive event deep dives for large-scale events, deliver high-quality documentation for the events and drive corrective actions to completionImprove our detection mechanisms by designing and implementing new alerts.Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.Collaborate with highest tier escalation engineers/resolvers.Create and review documentation and process regarding network implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.Identify and drive opportunities to repeatable tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and toolsEffectively contribute towards hiring and developing others in the team.A day in the life
Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needsManage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
3+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments.
4+ years experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems.
3+ years experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, Server Load Balancers, Firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, LDAP, NFS, etc.
Experience with one or more of the following router, server load balancer, and firewall vendor platforms: Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, Arista, Brocade, Extreme, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.
In-depth knowledge of and experience with networking and/or systems technologies
Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments.
Software development/programming
Possess Scripting skills or have desire to learn them; specifically Python, Perl, or Shell (bash, ksh, csh).
