Network and Security Gateway Engineer Join a Leading Federal Government Department Multiple Positions Available Flexible Working Arrangements Location: Canberra, ACT Long term contract (Initial 7 months contract with 2 X12 months extension options) About the Role As a Network and Security Gateway Engineer, you will play a crucial role in modernising the department's computer systems.
Your responsibilities will include enhancing security measures and facilitating the transition of various business systems and infrastructure from outdated platforms.
You will build, configure, and maintain a virtualised server fleet across multiple domains, supporting the department's corporate, border, and public-facing services.
Key Responsibilities Provide technical expertise to projects and business areas, leading technical deliverables.
Support the management and operation of the Department's secure Internet gateway, secure systems, data centre, and network services.
Liaise with external and internal service providers as required.
Monitor and support network and gateway systems, including Data Centre technologies, SMTP email systems, SSL Gateways, Load Balancers, Proxy systems, Firewalls, and IPS.
Implement major and minor project work to support Departmental initiatives.
Undertake enhancement and remediation activities across network and gateway systems.
Essential Criteria Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as a Network & Security Gateway Engineer.
High-level communication skills (both verbal and written).
Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills.
Ability to distil requirements from complex scenarios and develop new processes where required.
Demonstrated analytical background and experience in Agile methodology.
Desirable Criteria Experience in implementing IT solutions for large, highly integrated government or similar scale private organisations.
Knowledge of Cloud, Security, and Automation technologies.
Solid understanding of gateway and ICT security technologies.
Eligibility Requirements Due to the nature of the role, Australian citizens with security clearance are preferred.
