National Heavy Vehicle Regulator | Senior Data Governance Specialist

Based at our Newstead office, the Senior Data Governance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring effective data management practices, compliance, and regulatory capability as it pertains to data, within our organization along with contributing to maintaining data quality, security, and alignment with strategic goals.
Key responsibilities of this role are: Provide legal support to the NHVR's Procurement and Data & Technology teams. Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and frameworks by collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Monitor compliance with data governance policies and recommend improvements. Establish, re-invigorate and maintain data stewardship practices. Assess data quality and define data quality standards, including data cataloguing, lineage and libraries in conjunction with the Data Managers and Security Engineers whilst driving continuous improvement. Foster relationships with key senior level stakeholders and work closely with business units to enhance data maturity and accuracy. Lead change management efforts related to data governance initiatives and foster a data-aware culture across the organization. NHVR's Data Team are currently undertaking growth and considerable transformation, and this is an exciting time to join the organisation.
About You To be successful in this role you will possess:
3+ years' experience in Data Governance, data management or related roles. Understanding of privacy laws, data protection regulations, compliance requirements and data industry standards. In-depth understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices with ability to design and implement data governance policies and procedures. Demonstrated strong written communication skills including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex issues and risks in high level documentation including reports, briefings, business cases and presentations.
