Specialist Protective Command (SPC) is a hybrid (Specialised/Operational) Command within the AFP (Australian Federal Police) and is responsible for establishing national strategy, governance and capabilities whilst also delivering operational outputs within the ACT. Applications are sought from suitably qualified people wishing to be considered for a position as a Team Member (AFP Band 5) National Canine Operations, Training Delivery - Specialist Protective Command. Positions are non-ongoing for a period of two years. The AFP National Canine Program is a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist dog capabilities for the AFP.
The Team Member role will predominantly focus on developing the necessary skills, knowledge and values required by the AFP appointees in order to effectively deliver AFP outcomes. The role specialises in training police dogs and AFP members in a range of disciplines. This role may attract a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement 2017-2020, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do? Team members are expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Contribute to the planning, development, coordination, delivery, assessment and evaluation of AFP National Canine Operations training programs.Contribute to the development of training needs analysis.Provide feedback, guidance and ongoing support to training program participants.Conduct training delivery and assessment in accordance with the vocational education and training (VET) Quality Framework for Registered Training Organisations.Maintain accurate records of participant progress and outcomes relating to Learning and Development programs.Maintain innovative proficiencies in subject matter and training expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.Monitor and develop the operational effectiveness of detection dog teams by assisting with the planning, implementation and review of training and operational deployments.Monitor, analyse and report on regional proficiency maintenance training through a relevant record keeping system.Prepare lesson plans on core elective curriculum modules and deliver to trainee dog handlers.Plan and deliver annual skill maintenance proficiencies of detection dog teams.Monitor the fitness, health and well-being of the detection dog teams.Build, and maintain external and internal networks, while establishing and maintaining effective workplace relationships.Assist with the day-to-day management of facilities.Work as directed to meet operational needs of the program.Minimum Requirements: You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent is preferred.Demonstrated experience in the training and deployment of law enforcement dogs or relevant backgrounds.Has contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.A reasonable level of fitness required to work dogs.Additional Information This position is an AFP Band level 5.This role is based in Canberra, applicants must be in the ACT region.Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion At the AFP we value the different perspectives, approaches and lived experiences of our people, and recognise that our collective intelligence and diversity is what makes us stronger.
