The Role
The ABC is looking for a National Affairs Correspondent to lead national affairs coverage on a wide range of subjects across all ABC platforms and play a lead role in key breaking news events across politics and stories of national interest.
The Job Create high impact, accurate stories across platforms, adhering to ABC Editorial Policies. Break stories of national importance and develop original content that is distinctive and audience focussed. Lead insightful and well-informed coverage of federal politics across platforms, including high-quality live reports, complex Q&As and 'rolling' news coverage. Shape program style and guide high-profile coverage, including innovative and creative content. Produce diverse, nationally relevant stories, engaging with communities. Research, source, and conduct interviews for compelling content. Spearhead editorial initiatives to enhance ABC's profile and audience engagement. Maximize content value through multi-platform adaptation and social media. Develop and maintain a broad network of high-level contacts across government and industry. Assume senior production roles, focus on team leadership, and assist in staff development and assessment. About You
You will have extensive senior reporting experience with exceptional journalistic skills and sound research and editorial judgment. Your collaborative leadership in team environments will ensure your effectiveness in the role.
You'll also have:
Proven ability to consistently break original stories. Exceptional government contacts and a deep understanding of federal politics, parliamentary procedures and policy. Excellent multimedia presentation and production skills, including high-level TV writing and live presenting skills. Thorough understanding of digital news and cross-platform filing. Strong networks and knowledge of major issues; understanding of audience needs across all demographics, throughout metro, suburban and rural/regional settings.
