To continue to deliver for our community, we are seeking a Municipal Building Surveyor to lead our friendly, customer-focused Building Services team.
Ensure efficient and compliant service delivery, building applications, stakeholder engagement, and policy development.
This role will provide you the opportunity to:
Oversee and undertake the delivery of services including building compliance investigations, inspections, audits, assessments, and approvals for report and consent applications and essential safety measures audits and inspections.Oversee, track, and monitor the Building Services functions, building and swimming pool registers, and complete reports for Manager Regulatory Services, Senior Management Team and/or Council.Ensure that Council's statutory building obligations are met, and requirements of the Building Act 1993 and Regulations are carried out professionally and in a timely manner.Carry out the functions empowered to the Municipal Building Surveyor under the Building Act 1993 to provide for a safer built environment for the general public and building occupants, including monitoring of compliance of premises with Essential Safety Measure and swimming pool/spa barrier requirements, and issuing Notices/Orders where appropriate.Undertake core building functions such as inspections, report and consent applications, Places of Public Entertainment (POPE) applications and represent Council at court hearings, advisory bodies, and other forums as may be required on building matters.Our ideal candidate will have:
Qualification as a Registered Building Practitioner – Building Surveyor - Unlimited issued by the Building Practitioners Board and maintains this during the term of their employment.A proven understanding of the underlying principles of building surveying and related legislation and their application at the Local Government Level.Highly developed management skills, including demonstrated experience in leadership, financial management, and performance improvement.Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise with staff, Councillors, customers, and the general public.Experience presenting evidence and reports to Building Appeals Board hearings and Magistrate's Court hearings along with analysing POPE applications is highly desirable.We care, we thrive, we grow.
