Multiple Senior Advisors, Procurement and/or Grants Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) – Canberra ACT
We are seeking to recruit multiple people to join our Procurement and Grants Advisory team as either Senior Advisor Procurement or Senior Advisor Grants. The Procurement & Grants Advisory Services team is a large, dynamic, and diverse team with positive leadership and a collaborative culture.
The team is committed to process improvement and is driving a program of change to uplift the maturity of procurement and grants practices across the department. The work of the team is strongly supported by our Senior Executives, and we are delivering on priority initiatives with the attention of the Secretary and Ministers. It is an exciting time to join the Procurement & Grants Advisory Services team.
Reporting to one of two Assistant Directors, each Senior Advisor is primarily responsible for providing accurate, timely, and nuanced policy advice and direction to business areas undertaking procurements and/or grant activities.
The successful candidates will be problem solvers with a need to understand the 'why' and the 'so what'. They will look beyond the surface layer to understand not only the question but also why the question is being asked. Our successful candidates will have the support needed to grow into the role and be successful but ultimately will work with limited direction with reasonable autonomy and accountability.
Each Senior Advisor will become a subject matter expert in either procurement or grants and will also cross-skill sufficiently in the opposite discipline (allowing the management of basic enquiries). With a strong understanding of relevant internal and external policies, the Senior Advisor will provide outstanding customer service, practical advice, and policy guidance to support the achievement of best-practice commissioning activities at DEWR.
The key duties of the position include: Responsibilities of the Senior Advisor may include:
Delivering professional, accurate, and actionable advice and guidance on how to deliver and manage compliant and successful procurement and/or grants processes. Understanding and interpreting complex Commonwealth procurement and/or grants related policies and communicating and/or translating them for consumption by business areas and our executive. Developing and maintaining user-friendly, simple-to-follow guidance materials in a variety of formats and standard operating procedures. Developing and maintaining compliant and useful procurement and/or grants templates and standard operating procedures. Identifying needs and supporting capability uplift across the department. Promoting and tracking compliance with relevant policies. Leading and/or supporting reporting such as but not limited to reporting to the department's Executive Board, responding to Questions on Notice, Senate Orders, and AusTender/GrantConnect reporting. Eligibility Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
