Role The Multicultural Education Aide may be required to: Support EAL learners to reach their potential at school, by assisting them in the classroom. Communicate directly with families and support teachers and student welfare co-ordinators. Support students in the classroom, explain teacher instructions and work requirements. Support teachers' general communication with students. Act as a resource to develop staff knowledge of the students' backgrounds and the issues they face. Help to involve parents in school activities and programs. Responsibilities Responsibilities: Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas. Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions. Provide basis physical and emotional care for students. Participate in team meetings. Assist with the supervision of pupils in playgrounds, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities and life skills. Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment. Set up and put away equipment and materials in support of teaching programs. Observe students and draw attention of the teacher to them where necessary. Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and evaluation of individual student involvement and achievement. Assist with communication between teachers and non-English speaking parents/students. Ensure work areas and materials, equipment and appliances are maintained in a clean and ready to use condition. Assist in the preparation of equipment and purchasing of materials and supplies as required. Who May Apply Applicants must be prepared to drive extensively as part of their working day. Location Profile GEELONG ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTRE OVERVIEW Programs The Geelong English Language Centre (GELC):
Provides EAL (English as an Additional Language) tuition to eligible New Arrival students enrolled in primary and secondary government schools in the Geelong area. Supports teachers and schools in the Greater Geelong area to build EAL teaching skills and develop appropriate EAL programs and policies for students within their first five years of school in Australia. Location and delivery:
GELC is administratively based at Bell Park North Primary School.
In 2024, GELC will deliver an intensive English language program for New Arrivals students at three English Language Centres (ELCs) in the northern and central suburbs of Geelong.
In the English Language Centres classes have an average size of 13 students. They may be of mixed age and English language proficiency levels. 
GELC also provides support to build EAL capacity within schools through the EAL support Cluster program. This program is delivered in schools across the Greater Geelong area. Teachers and Multicultural Education Aides (MEAs) working in this program will be required to travel extensively and may be required to work flexible hours including before and after normal face to face teaching hours.
The Geelong English Language Centre has a number of purposes: These are to provide:
A focused learning environment that supports all students to reach their potential in English language development. A supportive and stimulating work environment for all staff that encourages commitment, innovation and excellence. Professional learning opportunities for mainstream school staff to support newly arrived and EAL students and their families. Students in GELC programs come from a wide range of language and cultural backgrounds.
