RoleThe Multicultural Education Aide may be required to:
Support EAL learners to reach their potential at school by assisting them in the classroom.Communicate directly with families and support teachers and student welfare coordinators.Support students in the classroom, explain teacher instructions and work requirements.Support teachers' general communication with students.Act as a resource to develop staff knowledge of the students' backgrounds and the issues they face.Help to involve parents in school activities and programs.ResponsibilitiesProvides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines.Supports communication between teachers and parents.Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities.Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting.Communicates with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information.Addressees immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting aligned to school policy and procedure.Provides basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to 4 students within a classroom setting.Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision.Provides medical intervention support to a student/s, under specific conditions, with appropriate training and guidance.Provides specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille.Who May ApplyApplicants must be prepared to drive extensively as part of their working day.Applicants will need to have strong interpersonal skills and a preparedness to work with a diverse community in a range of settings.Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.Child Safe StandardsVictorian government schools are child safe environments. The GELS main administrative campus is collocated with Wangala Primary School in Belmont, Geelong.
In 2025, GELS will deliver an intensive English language program for New Arrivals students at three campuses.
