Assistant Vice President - Sydney - MUFG Bank, Ltd., AustraliaMUFG Bank, Ltd., Australia Sydney4 days agoDescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to join our team as Assistant Vice President / Vice President, Legal Counsel for Oceania.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading financial group and make a meaningful impact.About the RoleIn this role, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on a range of matters including litigation management, legal risk management, employment law, regulatory compliance and financial crime prevention.
You will also be involved in the negotiation of vendor contracts and inter-affiliate legal documentation.Key Responsibilities:Establish and maintain a legal risk management framework that meets the needs of the business.Provide timely and trusted advice to human resources, compliance and financial crime prevention functions in Oceania.Control legal risk by providing guidance to business units on dispute resolution and pre-dispute actions.Negotiate vendor contracts that reflect the services to be acquired by MUFG.Be an independent guardian and trusted business partner by providing commercially sensitive and pragmatic legal advice.Support the provision of legal consultancy services and guidance to business units on material legal developments.Collaborate closely with Legal Office for Asia, Head Office Legal in Tokyo, international legal functions in other regions and other local legal units within the branches and subsidiaries of MUFG.Requirements:Minimum 6-8 years of post-qualification work experience or 2-6 years of post-qualification work experience for AVP role.Lawyer qualified in a common law jurisdiction, ideally Aus / NZ qualified but candidates qualified in Singapore, US, UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia & India will also be considered.Prior experience in regulatory compliance / HR / litigation / legal risk management.Prior in-house legal experience in a financial institution would be an advantage.Broad experience across banking and lending, wholesale / investment banking products and capital markets.Strong technical knowledge of legal framework surrounding finance transactions generally, and strong document drafting skills.Good knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to finance and banking.Self-motivated and independent, with the ability to clearly challenge process and decisions, as well as to set new standards to ensure best practices are always followed.Highly motivated and a willingness to get involved.Excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to manage large workloads and tight deadlines.Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.A calm approach, with the ability to perform well in a pressurised environment.
