About the role Mater Pathology is seeking applications for a Mortuary Assistant who will provide support services in the Mortuary and in the Anatomical Pathology and Cytopathology Laboratories to ensure mortuary, autopsy and laboratory services are performed and maintained to the highest quality standards.
This role will be employed permanent part-time, 0.6 hours per week. This will include but not limited to the operational running of the mortuary and autopsy room.
Knowledge of the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council Subcommittee on Autopsy Practice – 'National Code of Ethical Autopsy Practice' and the requirements for respect and sensitivity to the deceased and their cultural and religious beliefs and for integrity and confidentiality with all matters pertaining to the deceased.
Apply the highest ethical standards when dealing with deceased persons including the need for respect for the deceased and their relatives and the need for recognition and respect for cultural and religious customs and practiceEnsure optimum operational efficiency by performing mortuary duties including specimen handling, body transfer, storage and environmental maintenanceProvide assistance to Anatomical Pathologists and Registrars with autopsies including preparation of body, evisceration and restoration of paediatric, adult and high risk autopsiesLiaise with internal and external clients including the Funeral Directors and hospital social workers and assist with training of other mortuary staff, Registrars, Pathologist, Mater Mother's Bereavement team membersManage all forms necessary for autopsy and body transfer, body register and all elements of Laboratory system trackingDisposal of tissueAbout you As the successful applicant you will have:
High level communication and interpersonal skills, to work in a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with a broad range of clients in a respectful mannerKnowledge of the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council Subcommittee on Autopsy Practice – 'National Code of Ethical Autopsy Practice' and the requirements for respect and sensitivity to the deceased and their cultural and religious beliefs and for integrity and confidentiality with all matters pertaining to the deceasedKnowledge of, or the ability to gain knowledge of, techniques relating to post-mortem examinations, tissue retrieval and other related Histology and Histology laboratory tasksHigh attention to detail and documentation as well as time management skillsMater is Queensland's largest and most innovative not-for-profit healthcare service, providing care for almost 700,000 patients a year across a network of 11 hospitals.
