Where you'll be working The Wagga Wagga Health Service provides a 24-hour accident and emergency and is a referral hospital called Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.
Our services assist people and their families in living as comfortably as possible when dealing with a serious illness. Healthcare professionals in hospitals and care facilities offer this service, with specialised staff available to address complex issues.
Palliative care support is available at home, in a care facility, or in the hospital.
What you'll be doing The Palliative Care Specialist will provide a Specialist Medical Service across the LHD, including direct clinical management and education, for the specialist palliative care service.
The MLHD Specialist Palliative Care Services operate across Murrumbidgee LHD, including both Community Based services and in-reach to the inpatient facilities and residential aged care facilities. The position will work closely with non-specialist providers of palliative and end-of-life care within these communities and facilities within LHD, to provide seamless palliative and end-of-life care; and to build capacity for end-of-life care.
The Palliative Care Specialist maintains strong partnerships with external stakeholders including, however not limited to; Calvary Riverina Healthcare, Saint Vincent Hospital (SVH) outreach services, and other acute, aged, community-based and affiliated services. The position will work with staff at these facilities to support service delivery where appropriate.
Minimum Requirements Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM), or specialist qualification with certification of equivalent recognition by AHPRAExtensive experience in the provision of direct patient care, with an ongoing commitment to clinical consulting in palliative medicineDemonstrated experience in teaching palliative medicine and end-of-life care to healthcare professionals, and in the community settingDemonstrated ability to provide high-quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team and as a provider of services that produces high levels of patient satisfaction and experienceA willingness to provide both face-to-face and digital health i.e. video-consulting to all LHD communities, residential aged care facilities and acute facilities across Murrumbidgee LHD, on an ongoing basisWillingness to establish and facilitate formalised training appointments for medical, nursing and allied health staff in palliative and end-of-life careWillingness to engage in research activities relevant to palliative and end-of-life care within Murrumbidgee LHD to enhance innovation in clinical care and the equity and access of care for clients and carers in MLHDDemonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and clinical risk management; actively seek out improvements to service delivery; initiating change and consulting those affected by the change; allocating resources and proactively managing potential conflictsApply via eCredentialA National Police Check will be conducted, NSW Health does not require or accept the Fit2Work Badge offered as an option in eCredential.Applications via agencies will not be accepted.
