About us At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina & Murray regions of New South Wales.
Our Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol teams provide critical services within acute, sub-acute & community settings.
We are known for our innovative models of care designed for the rural & regional population we serve. What you'll be doing The Visiting Medical Officer will provide Psychiatric services to the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Wagga Wagga for one day per week.
There is also the option of providing extra occasional shifts as needed depending on the VMO's availability by contributing to the casual locum cover pool of VMO's.
That cover may include inpatient Psychiatry, Community Clinics, Consultation Liaison as negotiated on a shift by shift basis.
Working collegiately with a multi-disciplinary team is essential in all VMO positions.
This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the MLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
The principle position is remunerated at VMO rates as per the NSW Health Award and determined by level of experience.
The hours paid per day incorporate travel time, and travel costs are also included.
Where two consecutive days are worked, accommodation will also be provided.
Qualifications Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registrable with the Medical Board of Australia. Evidence of a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Demonstrated evidence of accreditation as an RANZCP supervisor is desirable. Demonstrated significant experience in the field of Psychiatry and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to area of practice and a willingness to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster. Willingness to teach medical students and other staff of the hospital when reasonably requested with demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation.
