Your role By joining the Air Force as Mission Controller, you'll enter an Officer Aviation role. Mission Controller refers to the group of roles that work in a ground-based environment, and includes Air Traffic Controller and Air Battle Manager. In these roles, you'll provide critical support to pilots using your critical thinking skills to manage aircraft and aerial battlegrounds from control towers or advanced electronic command systems. Your duties may include: Working in control towers and radar control rooms to ensure airfields, aircraft and vehicles operate smoothly. Controlling the airspace above active battlefields. Performing critical surveillance using advanced systems to guide pilots and airborne assets to where they are needed. Operating radar, communications, and tactical data links to locate and identify targets.
