The role
ALS Mineralogy is seeking a Mineralogy Analyst to become part of a team that strives to exceed client expectations by delivering quality results on time.
 
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will join a small, yet dedicated team of geologists and scientists based in Stafford, Brisbane .
 
We're looking for someone who has graduated recently or has started their career and is looking for a role in geology. When you join the team, you will be trained in the use of quantitative mineralogy software, SEM operation and theoretical aspects of process mineralogy.
 
The Mineralogy business stream provides specialist laboratory-automated mineralogical analysis services to the international minerals industry. The service is based on the use of Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA) software controlling a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to quantitatively analyze mineral samples.
 
Great work-life balance as this role is Monday to Friday in the office and standard business hours.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Using SEM and Xray detector technologies to produce high-quality, quantitative mineralogical data Conducting quality control checks on samples before analysis to ensure they are suitable for SEM analysis Preparing calibration solutions for sample analysis Ensuring that SEM analyses are accurately set up using established procedures Checking and reporting of results Prioritising daily workloads Performing instrument performance tests and completing routine maintenance of the SEMs Providing guidance to technical staff Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual 11th June, 2024 Imagine your future with us

You will be part of a small, enthusiastic team; thus, good interpersonal skills are essential. A good work ethic, problem-solving skills, and excellent communication skills will be highly regarded.
 
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
The minimum requirement for this position is a Bachelor's degree in Science with a significant geological component. Further post-grad studies in a relevant field are advantageous You should ideally also have some experience in SEM operation and must possess basic skills in the use of spreadsheets and word processors Experience in mineralogy, optical microscopy, metallurgy and the use of SEM-based automated mineral analysers would be highly desirable A working knowledge of lab safety requirements Demonstrated experience in a quality accredited commercial laboratory environment Working at ALS
