Suncorp's Corporate Development team provides advice on and executes corporate development initiatives within the Suncorp Group, focusing on inorganic activity while working closely with the Group Strategy team, which has an organic focus.
The Corporate Development team is accountable for leading and advising on the execution of M&A transactions, providing advice and governance oversight on smaller scale transactions led by the business lines and offering full-service project management services on larger transactions led by the Group. The team also maintains the Group Valuation Model (GVM) and prepares associated materials to support the organic business plan and advice to the Group Board.
What you'll do:
Analyze M&A opportunities (strategic rationale evaluation, valuation, and other analysis) including assessment of:
Takeovers, mergers / de-mergers;
Acquisitions;
Divestments;
Strategic equity investments;
The establishment / exit of joint ventures or similar co-investment proposals;
Other inorganic activities (strategic partnerships, management buyouts, etc.).
Financial modeling for transactions and other corporate finance situations.
Execute M&A transactions including due diligence (sell-side and buy-side), transaction documentation negotiation, and project management.
Prepare briefing papers on M&A topics for senior executives within the Suncorp Group.
Maintain the GVM and prepare associated Board materials.
Maintain relationships with supporting stakeholders across the Group.
Influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders (EGMs, CEOs) across the Group.
What you'll bring:
Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or other relevant fields.
Postgraduate qualifications would be highly regarded (ICAA / CPA / CFA / Masters of Finance / MBA).
4-7 years in investment banking, corporate finance team within a boutique or chartered accounting environment, private equity, or internal corporate development team.
Strong technical skills across financial modeling (including advanced Excel skills and ability to use and navigate external data platforms).
High-quality written skills with a focus on brevity.
Deep understanding of various corporate finance valuation methodologies and their respective appropriate application.
Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and challenge financial and commercial information.
Strong understanding of shareholder value creation economics.
