Exciting opportunity in a key role within the dynamic, valued and well-established Cancer Services team at The Mater Hospital which is supported by the McGrath Foundation. The position sits alongside existing McGrath Metastatic Breast Care Nurse. This is a fixed term contract and will require you to work on a part time basis on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. About the Role: Applications are sought from suitably qualified Registered Nurse with previous Breast Care Nursing experience to work in the Patricia Richie Centre Unit at The Mater Hospital.
The role of the McGrath Metastatic Breast Care Nurse (MBCN) - CNC Grade 1 is to provide specialist nursing care, information, education and support to patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.
The MBCN is a highly skilled and motivated practitioner who will utilise expert skills, knowledge and experience to work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care.
Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across primary, secondary and tertiary health. The MBCN is a clinical expert in advanced breast cancer and functions as a resource person to patients, carers, families, clinical services, and community agencies.
The MBCN will deliver a coordinated, evidenced-based, seamless, and patient focused approach to care through specialist educational resources for patients, carers, and staff. The patient-centered, holistic nursing care provided by the MBCN is consistent with the approach underpinned by the McGrath Model of Care.
Selection Criteria: Registered Nurse with at least five years post registration experience and post graduate qualifications in breast cancer nursing, oncology, or palliative care or working towards. Experience in Breast Cancer Nursing is essential.Demonstrated understanding of the physical and psychological needs of patients with metastatic breast cancer.Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, initiate and manage complex cases at an advanced level.Proven ability to implement change and develop direction in clinical practice by the use of evidence-based research and best practice principles.Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills and the ability to provide information and education effectively to patients, families, and carers.Demonstrated effective organisational and time management skills and the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
