The role is based out of our Adelaide office; however, other locations within Australia will be considered. This role has ownership of servicing clients' needs relative to materials engineering/metallurgy that is in line with Intertek policies and procedures and client quality standards. With great emphasis placed on accurate and error-free reporting, this role would ideally suit a process-driven, self-managed metallurgist who prides themselves in their high attention to detail.The role will involve working alongside other metallurgists and technicians from mechanical testing and non-destructive testing to determine the root cause of a failure or to understand and communicate with customers information that is helpful and beneficial to their operation. As time goes on, the role will involve travel to power stations nationally for onsite metallurgical services.Key Areas of ResponsibilitiesPerforming materials engineering/metallurgy within the company, client, and regulatory standards, with accuracy, and in a manner which results in positive customer feedback and meets internal audit requirements.Ensuring that all work undertaken is carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner.Ensuring Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) standards are maintained, and that all work areas are free from risk to persons, equipment, and the natural environment by identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards.Assisting Intertek in developing and improving Environmental policies and procedures that lead to improvement in Environmental performance.Ensuring that all work activities meet relevant legislative requirements.Assuming the face of Intertek in all company representative matters, to all Intertek clients, as well as other stakeholders.Skills and experienceThe essential requirements of this role include:A university degree(s) in metallurgy, materials science, or materials engineering.Strong emphasis on servicing clients in a timely and professional manner.Ability to utilise a range of techniques to identify fracture modes and loading conditions for fatigue, brittle and ductile fractures, wear and to determine likely causes and recommend prevention strategies.Identification of corrosion mechanisms, corrodents, and causes of corrosion.Competent in microstructural analysis of metals and alloys, particularly steels, stainless steels, cast irons, and welds and understand structure-processing-property relationships, particularly for heat-treated components.Familiar with scanning electron microscopy and associated EDS systems to resolve failure modes and identify foreign material.Proven problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.Demonstrated written and oral skills.Practical and methodical.Excellent report writing skills and proficient in MS Office (Word and Excel).Ability to work with minimal supervision and have strong time management skills.Candidate must be willing to travel interstate as required.High level of work ethic and communication skills to meet the demands of clients, who may include various engineers, construction, manufacturing, petrochemical industries, mining, power generation, water industries, insurance/litigation.Desirable skills and experience include:Post Graduate Qualifications.At least 2 years' experience as a hands-on practicing materials engineer/scientist or metallurgist.Experienced in reviewing and analysing replications onsite for the power industry.Understanding of non-destructive test techniques as they relate to failure analysis and corrosion investigations.Experience in working with ISO Quality Systems.Proven performance in team situations.CultureIntertek is a global organisation which respects diverse perspectives, experiences, and traditions as essential and values each employee's contribution towards achieving its business objectives.You will enjoyA salary package commensurate with experience.Access to the Intertek Australia employee benefits program, which includes;Corporate health insurance plans.Corporate banking options.Intertek's employee assistance program.How to apply, who to contactTo apply for this exciting opportunity please apply via Seek.
