Join Lynas Rare Earths as we embark on our Global expansion Journey – to help shape a new future. The rare earth materials Lynas produces are essential inputs to future-facing technologies designed to lower carbon emissions and reduce energy consumption. This includes permanent magnet motors for technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles, and wind turbines. Our Rare Earths deposit in Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade Rare Earths mines in the world. The Mt Weld concentrator is being expanded from 300ktpa to 1.3 mtpa to ensure capacity to feed the new Kalgoorlie processing facility, whilst maintaining a mine life of more than 20 years. The first major milestone of this expansion is a new concentrate dewatering circuit (consisting of a 30m diameter. thickener and 2 horizontal filter presses) which has recently been commissioned. The remaining expansion equipment (construction completion in 2025) to be commissioned, consists of:Crushing (mineral sizer) and grinding/classification (SAG/Ball Mills & screen/cyclones).Flotation (both gangue mineral pre-flotation and rare earth oxide mineral flotation).Ultrafine regrinding with classification.Concentrate leaching & neutralisation (gangue mineral conversion for downstream processing).Concentrate storage and delivery.Bulk reagent unloading, storage & delivery systems.Bore water treatment plant & a recycled water treatment plant (patented technology).Tailings storage facility for 3 different tailings streams.Solar and wind power generation systems.Lynas is looking for a driven Metallurgist/Process Engineer to join a small, motivated team. In the role of Metallurgical Projects Engineer, you will:Demonstrate personal commitment to safety.Assist with commissioning and operational handover of the expansion equipment.Supervision of geometallurgical programs (from orebody up to rare earth carbonates), including future ores to optimise and increase the Life of Mine to > 20 years reserve life.Evaluate alternative reagents and energy savings initiatives to be used in the concentration plant.Conduct technical and economical evaluations of reprocessing by-products from MTW mining and concentration as well as KAL cracking and leaching.Keep track of GHG emissions project portfolio to improve environmental performance.Qualities we value:Minimum 3 years operational experience in minerals processing, with experience at a plant/project metallurgist level.Previous exposure to operation of concentrators including comminution, flotation, and dewatering circuits.Ability to autonomously develop, conduct and interpret metallurgical test work, project supervision and completion/installation, particularly in flotation.Have a tertiary qualification in Metallurgy / Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.Show initiative, self-motivation, and sound problem-solving skills in resolving technically challenging issues.Have a willingness to learn unique oxide mineral flotation and related water chemistry challenges.Have a high level of attention to detail with planning, analytical and decision-making skills.Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. This is a permanent role with Lynas Rare Earths based at Mt Weld Operation. At Lynas Rare Earths, we pride ourselves on offering competitive remuneration packages and offer a family friendly roster of 8 days on 6 days off fly in fly out (FIFO) from Perth. We are committed to ensuring that our workplace is inclusive, where all our people feel that they belong, are valued, and respected. We welcome and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the LGBTI+ community, mature workers, as well as candidates with culturally diverse backgrounds.
