Temporary employment register The Temporary Employment Register is open to candidates to submit an expression of interest for casual employment as a Messengerial Attendant. The Register enables us to access appropriately skilled and experienced individuals at short notice. The role Messengerial Attendants provide high quality service and administrative support to a wide range of clients at Parliament House including the Speaker, Members of Parliament, the Clerks, other parliamentary staff in the Chamber and Federation Chamber and the department.  The work is varied, interesting and involves working in a team and with a wide range of clients. You will perform key activities, in line with the rules, policies, processes and guidelines relating the department and Parliament House regarding access to the Chamber, Federation Chamber and the Parliamentary precincts, such as: • setting up and clearing the Chamber and Federation Chamber on sitting days • delivering and distributing parliamentary papers • delivering messages  • collecting and delivering of mail and other goods to clients or courier duties • setting up Committee rooms for hearings and meetings • distributing furniture, equipment and stores within the department including operating an assets/stores inventory system • Assist in providing advice and support and assistance to Members on the use of the COMCAR shuttle and the coordination of the number, task and release of vehicles allocated to the shuttle • providing directory assistance to staff and visitors to Parliament House • escorting visitors and delegations. You may also be called upon to and assist with managing an incident in the Chamber or Federation Chamber and will be provided with First Aid training. Messengerial Attendants undertake rostered work and overtime at short notice, and may be required to move between the duties listed according to work requirements. Our ideal candidate We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with others and providing high quality support and services. Our ideal candidate is someone who has skills and experience and can: • work in a small team with limited supervision, • work under pressure and meet deadlines while following rules, policies and procedures • quickly acquire a good working knowledge of parliamentary practices and procedures  • communication with a wide range of clients • be organised • use a range of ICT applications or is willing to learn • at all times display personal qualities of tact, courtesy and discretion in a sensitive client service environment. Eligibility Messengerial Attendants are required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance. Maintenance of a security clearance at this level is essential to the role, and failure to maintain a security clearance at this level may result in termination of employment. Employment arrangements Messengerial Attendants are engaged on a casual basis (irregular/intermittent).   Subject to agreed periods of non-availability, work is allocated according to a roster and you will be expected to be available for work on sitting days at the rostered times. Work in non-sitting periods may also be required. You should not have an expectation of regular employment hours or ongoing employment and the Department does not make any representations to you about the availability of any future periods of work.
