HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Registered Nurse to join the headspace team  in Esperance!
The position is full time, working Monday to Friday.
About the Opportunity : The Mental Health Registered Nurse plays an active role in supporting the ongoing development of the physical & sexual health stream and is responsible for providing person-centered support, education, referral and advocacy to young people aged between 12-25 years regarding their physical, sexual, mental and psycho-social health.
This is a hybrid role that role will also provide consultation to the headspace team, assist with the triage and intake process for enquiries and referrals and provide direct mental health services to a caseload of young people in Esperance.
It involves working closely with key stakeholders and the Community Engagement team to promote health and well-being in the the community & secondary schools.
Requirements for the Role: Provide 1:1 health education around issues relevant to young people including, mental, physical and sexual health, substance use, body image, nutrition, exercise, immunisations, general health, and well-being.
Provide physical and sexual health checks (if within scope of practice).
Work within the multidisciplinary team to support the physical & mental health needs of young people and their families and friends.
Perform assessments and screening, escalate concerns to internal and external services and parents, caregivers, or guardians as appropriate.
Support relevant headspace staff in monitoring medication and the physical health of young people.
Liaise with General Practitioners to ensure that the health needs of young people are being met.
Advocate on behalf of young people to increase their awareness about issues directly affecting their mental, physical and sexual health wellbeing and enhance their ability to make informed choices Provide clinical care for young people with a range of mental health presentations in accordance with the headspace model and utilising evidence-based practice.
Maintain case records, in the agreed format and within expected timeframes that clearly document activities undertaken and ensure all documentation in comprehensive, factual and complies with relevant legislation, professional guidelines and organisational policies.
Demonstrate familiarity with ethical standards and show clinical awareness of available support in areas such as forensic and legal topics, mandatory reporting of abuse, confidentiality, managing risk, supporting young people in the midst of crises and distress), safety issues and the underpinning legislative requirements in Western Australia.
Participate in clinical and case review meetings, intake meetings, and risk management meetings, to manage referrals and the allocation of young people About You: Allied health professional (AHPs; usually psychologists, social workers), and psychiatrists with full and current professional registration to practice from relevant peak professional body (e.g.
AHPRA, AASW); OR Occupational therapist with full and current professional registration to practice from AHPRA, and who have completed additional mental health specific training or endorsement in mental health, and who have full and current professional registration OR Registered Nurse (with experience in physical, sexual and mental health service delivery) with full and current AHPRA registration.
Demonstrated experience in working clinically with young people with mild to moderate mental health issues within a short-term intervention program.
Proven ability to work with a mixed modality of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
The ability to engage and work effectively with vulnerable young people and their families, including those who may exhibit challenging behaviours.
A demonstrated understanding of the issues facing young people and accessing services.
The ability to make timely, sound decisions and assessments regarding required interventions and referral pathways.
Experience working within the mental health service system and knowledge of mental health issues, impacts and navigation of the service system.
High level of oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with young people, Primary Health Professions and other health professionals.
Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team.
Excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills.
Sound administration, client record, file management and IT skills Current C or A class driver's license Working with Children's Card.
Police Certificate (within 3 months) Desirable Criteria: Experience working with the following priority groups: Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and gender diverse young people and their families.
Understanding of the Australian health care system, key issues in primary health care, the mental health service system, including the range of professionals that work within, or encounter, the mental health sector.
Nursing Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
