Strathmore Secondary College is situated between Pascoe Vale Road and the Moonee Ponds Creek in the northern suburb of Strathmore.
The school was founded in 1957 with 186 students.
The population has grown considerably and now the school draws the majority of its population of over 1900 students from within the designated neighbourhood area bounded by Strathmore Heights, Pascoe Vale and Essendon.Strathmore Secondary College employs a total of 203 teaching and non-teaching staff.
The students are placed within one of five school teams vertically structured across Year 7 - 12 and are supported by core teachers in Faculty Areas.
Junior school team leaders and coordinators work closely with Year 7 – 10 students, teachers and parents to develop positive relationships to support student learning.
VCE leaders and team coordinators work with Year 11 and 12 students to achieve outstanding results.The College has become a high performing school by implementing an instructional model based on research from McREL, Marzano Institute and Learning Horizons.
This has led to improvements in student outcomes and enabled teachers to develop as classroom practitioners with clear expectations around pedagogy.The Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) initiative was announced by the Minister for Education in late 2018 to expand mental health and wellbeing support in government schools.
The initiative provides for a suitably qualified mental health professional in all government secondary school campuses and specialist school settings.Selection Criteria
Ability to implement a range of small group and whole-school mental health prevention and promotion activities aimed at improving student mental health and wellbeing.Demonstrated ability to input into the development, implementation and evaluation of processes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health and wellbeing.Demonstrated experience in assessing and providing evidence-based direct counselling support to clients with a range of mental health needs.Demonstrated experience in coordinating supports for young people with complex needs.Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills.Clear understanding of legislative requirements regarding privacy of health information.Who May Apply
Applicants must be qualified as a psychologist, social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or counsellor of a prescribed class.Demonstrated direct counselling experience.A current Working With Children Check.Child Safe Standards
