Men's Sheds of WA is seeking a dynamic, self-driven Shed Development Officer to join our team supporting WA's network of Men's Sheds. This part-time role (20 hours per week) involves managing a wide range of enquiries from Sheds and engaging with Shed leaders, offering support and guidance on best practice, good governance and effective volunteer and member engagement. The role is a great opportunity to connect with and support organisations that are dedicated to men's health and wellbeing.
Men's Sheds of WA Inc is the peak organisation supporting Men's Sheds in Western Australia. We are a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity, supporting approximately 200 Men's Sheds and Community Sheds throughout WA.
MAIN DUTIES The Shed Development Officer reports to the Senior Engagement Officer and has the following duties:
Member Engagement
Supporting the WA network of Men's Sheds and Community Sheds Our organisation's first point of contact for Sheds, coordinating enquiries for the team Working with Sheds to support and understand their needs, issues and opportunities. Development and Support
Support Sheds to be resilient, sustainable and provide good and safe volunteer management practices Assist Sheds in understanding and implementing good governance and management practices (including complying with their legal obligations as incorporated associations, charities, and not-for-profit organisations) Supporting new and established Sheds, including assistance in strategic planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, funding/resources Support established Sheds with advice and guidance. Organise and/or deliver training sessions and/or events for Shed leaders and members Contribute to the preparation and running of regular regional and metro based Shed gatherings and meetings throughout the year. Undertaking activities as required to meet the intended objectives of the organisation. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Exceptional interpersonal, negotiating, oral and written communication skills Understanding of governance and management of not-for-profit organisations Well-developed organisational and time management skills, including an ability to: Work within tight deadlines Use initiative Work effectively with minimal supervision. Project and events coordination experience, including organising and supporting forums or other meetings Excellent computer skills including the MS Office suite. Good analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills relating to customers and sensitive issues Knowledge and understanding of the operation of Men's Sheds Experience in establishing partnerships and obtaining sponsorship and grants. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Hours are predominantly during the standard working week, but flexibility is required to meet the needs of the organisation. Work may be required to be performed at any time from Monday to Sunday.
The post is subject to a probationary period of three months.
The role is currently working from home with regular meetings at a shared office/meeting space. It is anticipated that, on Men's Sheds of WA securing a head office facility, the role will be based out of a Perth metro office with continued working from home and flexible working opportunities available.
Additional Requirements
Use of your own car where required (mileage allowance and access to a shared pool car is provided) Ability to undertake metro and regional travel as and when required (approximately 20 days pa).
