Meeka Metals Limited (MEK) is building Western Australia's newest gold mine, and key to our success is securing an experienced Senior Mining Engineer – Open Pit to join our Mining team at our new flagship site – Murchison Gold Project, 50kms north of Meekatharra.
The project is a combined open pit and underground mining operation with an initial 9-year mine life. Site activities are ramping up now with construction underway, mining operations commencing early in 2025 and processing commencing shortly thereafter.
About the Role The Senior Mining Engineer – Open Pit will report into the Mining Manager – Open Pit and is responsible and accountable for all design, planning and monitoring of all open pit mines. You will also fulfil the statutory requirements as Alternate Quarry Manager in the absence of the Mining Manager – Open Pit due to commute cycles.
The role is offered on an 8:6 roster, FIFO from Perth.
Key Responsibilities Strategic short-term plans, schedules and targets are developed, implemented, executed and evaluated in accordance with the Mining Manager's directions and the budget. Contractor performance is monitored against targets and monthly claims reviewed before submittal to Mining Manager. Reports are produced, reviewed and submitted as per the Mining Manager's requirements. Explosives are managed in compliance with statutory obligations. Performance management and disciplinary procedures are undertaken in compliance with Company procedures. Recommendations are made to the Mining Manager for sustainable business improvements and cost reduction measures. Working relationships between the Mining team, Contractors and all other departments is promoted and information flows freely and accurately. Incidents are investigated and corrective and preventative measures are implemented and evaluated for their effectiveness. Directions, tasks, projects and requirements received from the Mining Manager are completed. Ensure compliance with MEK safety policies, The Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 as well as other appropriate legislation. About You Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering Quarry Managers Certificate - Essential Minimum +5 years in open pit mining operations and practices Solid technical and working knowledge of relevant legislation. Proficiency in mining planning software (Deswik, MSO, EPS) Proficiency in mining production management software Proficiency in Geotechnical monitoring software (Quickslope) Experience in the Microsoft Office suite of software. Demonstrated experience in managing teams to meet targets and objectives. Senior First Aid Certificate. Valid National Police Clearance (Strong ability to liaise with external and internal stakeholders effectively. Strategic thinker, forward planning, risk management, risk mitigation and contributor to business improvements. Valid C Western Australian Drivers Licence.
