About the Role: This is a fixed term, full time parental leave replacement position until 07/12/2025, working 24/7 rotating shift and 9 days a fortnight within the RWH Core Laboratory. You will be responsible for performance of duties in all areas of our multi-disciplinary Core Laboratory (Haematology, Blood Bank, Biochemistry and Specimen Reception) to provide an efficient, caring and professional diagnostic service. You are required to participate in the 24/7 shift roster and on-call roster, and will also be required to work at The Royal Children's Hospital.
What you'll achieve: Perform and report diagnostic laboratory tests following techniques and procedures documented in laboratory manuals and the Quality System Standard (ISO 15189-2013)Contribute to consistently meeting benchmark Turn Around Times (TAT) established for the laboratoryPerform maintenance and quality control testing of Haematology, Blood Bank and Biochemistry equipmentYour skills and experience: Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or Bachelor of Science or equivalent is mandatory. Where "equivalent" includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary institution which is recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition, which in the case of Medical Scientists is the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS)Experience in a multidiscipline diagnostic pathology laboratory, with experience in at least two of the three disciplines of Blood Banking, Haematology and BiochemistryMajor in Haematology / Blood Bank is highly desirableDemonstrated relevant technical skills and knowledge and ability to work autonomously as well as part of a teamKnowledge of ISO 15189 and its application to medical testing is advantageousOther requirements: Current National Criminal Record Check, or willing to obtainValid Working with Children CheckCompliance with RCH's "Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases" procedureApplication process: To apply, you will need a resume and a tailored cover letter outlining your skills, experience, and suitability for the position in line with the requirements of the position description.
