About the Role As a Medical Scientist in the Victorian Cancer Cytogenetic Service, you will be required to perform a range of cytogenomic tests on patients with a haematological or solid tumour malignancy, including processing and analysis of samples by chromosome analysis, FISH, and microarray testing depending on classification.
The Medical Scientist is expected to contribute to the development of the department through training, education, and research activities.
As a medical scientist, you will also be expected to expand your technical and analytical skills as our department expands into molecular techniques.
Please note, this position is open to both Medical Scientist Grade 1 and 2, dependent upon the candidate's level of experience.
Your Contribution B.Sc., B.App.Sci. or equivalent. Experience in cytogenetics desirable. For appointment at the Grade 2 level, at least 5 years experience in cancer cytogenetics or molecular genetics with a focus on oncology/haematological malignancy. Higher qualification such as MHGSA, FHGSA or FFSc is desirable. Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain. About the Victorian Cancer Cytogenetic Service The Victorian Cancer Cytogenetic Service is the largest cancer cytogenetic laboratory in Australia and is a part of St Vincent's Pathology. We provide a state funded, state-wide service to all of Victoria in the area of cancer cytogenomics. We process close to 5000 cases per year and routinely perform chromosome analysis, FISH and microarray testing. We also participate in national and International clinical trials and actively look to the future to help inform our practices.
