Medical Officer 5 - Medical Adviser - Policy And Specialist Services Branch

Medical Advisers in the Medicare Benefits and Digital Health Division (MBDHD) assist the Division to deliver on an extensive and closely scrutinised work program by delivering high quality professional advice that is based on a sound knowledge of clinical medicine and the operation of Australia's health care system, public health policy and health financing.
Medical Advisers provide high level professional advice to team members and other staff both within and outside the Division and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders. Medical Advisers are expected to support the work of programs including the Medical Treatment Overseas Program and committees such as the Medical Services Advisory Committee. Ongoing reform work including the MBS Review Taskforce and Digital Health reforms require the support of the medical adviser to assist in the delivery of a contemporary Medicare Benefits Schedule.
The key duties of the position include:The Medical adviser will draw on their clinical experience to support MBDHD by:
Providing high quality medical advice to MBDHD on issues relevant to the Division.Undertaking timely assessment of clinical evidence, clinical trials, health systems, population health, health financing, regulations and public policy, as well as stakeholder views obtained through consultations to inform expert strategic advice.Demonstrating critical thinking of a high standard, probing information and identifying critical gaps to provide advice on Health Technology Assessment applications to inform the policy position for the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC).Understanding the Department's objectives and links within the Division, between Divisions and with other areas of the Government.Building and sustaining relationships with a network of key people internally and externally, including representing MBDHD at relevant meetings with external stakeholders as required.Liaising with medical and allied health professions, consumers, and hospital authorities on issues relating to the Medicare Benefits Schedule, including education when required.Responding flexibly to changing demands, monitoring progress and identifying risks that may impact on divisional outcomes and provide clinical guidance on the adjustment of plans as required.Providing advice on treatment options for the Medical Treatment Overseas program.Preparing high level written communication with a high attention to detail.Displaying high levels of resilience to meet departmental outcomes, adhere to APS values and Code of Conduct, and at all times operate within the boundaries of organisational processes and legal and public policy constraints. #J-18808-Ljbffr
