Medical Laboratory Scientist Anatomical, Queensland Health Seeking the best suited applicant to join our hard-working team of Health professionals. This role is predominately based in the Molecular Morphology laboratory, which performs a range of specialised testing such as immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation (CISH, SISH and FISH) and enzyme histochemistry and houses the statewide PQ FISH and neuropathology services. The position also supports the broader work performed in the Histology lab.
Provide input in the development of scientific practices, procedures and protocols and contribute to research activities within the Molecular Morphology Section.
Work as a team member in the Histology Section providing a comprehensive histology service to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, the Queensland Children's Hospital as well as a central support and referral service to laboratories throughout Queensland.
Key competencies (role specific criteria) Knowledge in the science of histology and its application in a diagnostic laboratory Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications including embedding, specimen dissection, microtomy, routine special stains and advanced complex special stains, urgent frozen section protocols and specimen dissection. Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skills) in one or more of the following specialised testing methods: immunohistochemistry, fluorescent in situ hybridisation, neurohistochemistry, muscle biopsy handling and enzyme histochemistry. Proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit including the meeting of critical deadlines. Ability to exercise a high level of independent decision-making regarding workflow management and in the provision of clinical advice within the scope of the role. Demonstrated high attention to detail, multitasking and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification. Proven willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities. Availability to participate in roster system across the operating hours of the department and weekend work as required. While experience with IHC/ISH methods will be highly regarded, applicants with a strong histology background are also encouraged to apply. Qualifications, registrations and other requirements The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in science from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
