Media Officer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Media Officer to support the Manager, Media in executing strategic communications initiatives. In this role, you will provide vital advice to business partners, ensuring the dissemination of important information to our customers while enhancing the reputation of our organisation. You will play a crucial part in developing and implementing both proactive and reactive media, social media, and public relations strategies to manage issues and crises effectively.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide professional assistance in public affairs, reviewing contentious issues, and preparing and issuing media statements with the necessary approvals
Contribute to event management for public appearances and craft materials for public speaking engagements to achieve event objectives
Support the evaluation of media coverage while identifying opportunities and risks, providing advice and briefing notes for senior staff and the Minister
Coordinate with the Minister's office on media issues to ensure consistent communication across the portfolio
Collect and communicate current affairs and developments relevant to the transport portfolio
Assist in developing effective public affairs and media policy and procedures
Demonstrate leadership behaviors that contribute to delivering organizational outcomes for our customers, our people, and the community at large

Key Challenges:
Navigating the unpredictable nature of media issues while managing competing deadlines in a demanding work environment
Delivering accurate information promptly under critical deadlines
Building and maintaining strong consultative relationships with internal business partners and government stakeholders

Key Knowledge and Experience:
Previous media experience for a government agency
Proven experience in journalism, media relations, or public relations within a contentious and complex environment, preferably in the public or private sector
Strong knowledge of media management and communication principles and practices.

Essential Requirements:
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
Availability on a call roster as needed
