ACT Policing is looking for motivated and experienced media and strategic communication professionals who have a demonstrated ability to develop and implement a variety of communication strategies and responses.
ACT Policing's Communications and Government Relations team is seeking individuals with experience in areas including media liaison, crisis management, public engagement, strategic communication and event organisation.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate appropriate experience in areas including media relations, campaign development, publications, website content, public affairs and social media. They must also possess good interpersonal and writing skills and a ability to make accurate and time-critical decisions under pressure.
Media and Strategic Communications officers support the operational business outcomes of ACT Policing and are responsible for internal and external communications, crisis communications and engaging with the community through corporate events.
Candidates are required to possess tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations/media, marketing and/or communications and/or equivalent experience in public relations (either media, marketing or strategic communications) positions.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?The (vacant) role in the Media Team requires you to:
Consider, prepare and respond to media enquiriesPrepare media releasesPrepare talking points to assist police in conducting press conferences and media interviewsManage media stand-ups and press conferencesMonitor and manage a group email inboxProvide advice and support to police where media engagement is requiredPerform on-call duties including out of hours, on weekends and on public holidaysManage media at incidents and crime scenes across the ACTWork to a roster covering shifts seven days a week including public holidaysStrategic communications officers are required to:
Develop and implement external communication strategies and campaignsProvide communications advice to internal partnersPrepare internal communication plans and activitiesCreate content for websites, social media, publications and marketing collateralAssist with other communication activities including events, public relations and media liaison during peak periods as requiredMinimum Requirements: You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in media, journalism, public relations, organisational communications, marketing or similar.Relevant qualification or experience and knowledge in media or strategic communications.Additional InformationThe working pattern for the media position is Operations with the successful applicant required to work a roster and support the broader business requirements of the area. As such, you will be entitled to the appropriate conditions detailed in the AFP Enterprise Agreement.
All positions require the ability to work flexibly – with regular roster changes at short notice due to operational and staffing requirements. The team works an average of 40 hours per week on a roster covering shifts between 7.00am and 7.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am and 11.00am on weekends and public holidays.
