About the role As a key member of the Strategic Communications leadership team, the Media and Public Relations Manager reports to the Head of Strategic Communications and leads a team of media advisors and social media specialists. Working alongside dedicated internal and corporate communications and events professionals, the media and public relations team identifies, develops and delivers stories to showcase the breadth of research and education impact; connects the media to university experts, and; helps manage issues and emergency communications.
More specifically, the role: •Develops, implements and evaluates university-wide media strategies, including digital, social and traditional media channels, to better inform the public, and promote the university and its activities  •Improves public awareness of UTS' activities through nurturing the external communication skills of academic and professional staff •Ensures a professional and timely service to external media seeking information from the university •Manages, directs and motivates the Media and Public Relations team to achieve critical operational outcomes by setting clear direction and expectations •Plays a leading role in helping the university respond to issues and emergencies. 
Detailed Description
About the Team The Strategic Communications team sits in the university's Marketing and Communication Unit (MCU) and includes media and public relations, social media, staff and student communications, events, and corporate communications. With a new marketing and communication framework in place, MCU works with university leadership, faculties, and academic and divisional colleagues to tell the university's story and build awareness in local, national and international communities. 
About you We are looking for an experienced media and public relations professional with demonstrated experience developing media engagement strategies and frameworks for integrating media engagement into broader campaign activity, well established media connections, and an ability to build and maintain a positive team culture.
With examples, please outline in in your Cover Letter, how you meet the following five (5) key selection criteria points: 1.Strong strategic planning, measurement and evaluation skills and knowledge of best practice PR, media, and social media measurement and evaluation.
2.Successful record of developing and managing media and public relations initiatives and campaigns within a large organisation.
3.High level organisational and relationship management skills, including excellent networking capabilities.
4.Knowledge of the Australian and international media landscape, including digital, social and traditional media platforms and channels.
5.Demonstrated experience leading a small team.
Base Salary Range: $134,476 to $140,880 pa (HEW 9) This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.
