Can you make a difference in an exciting, emerging industry where you can shape opinions and contribute to industry positions? SCA is the peak body and member organisation for the strata industry. Members consist of strata managers - who manage Owners Corporations and service suppliers to the strata industry. Our members specialise in the area of the management of common property in apartment and commercial buildings.
Our goal is to become the first port of call for comment, opinion and policy advice in the strata industry, to raise the industry profile and to advocate to government for meaningful change.
This is a role that will enable the successful candidate to report to the CEO and work in Sydney in a team with the National Policy & Advocacy Manager and Policy & Advocacy Officer.
To succeed in this role, you will require high-level strategic thinking and analytical skills. The role is ideally suited to someone that can progress the advocacy agenda of SCA, is experienced with government relations and has a demonstrated history of relationship building and achieving change.
Duties Creating and implementing media, government relations and stakeholder relations strategies to advance SCA advocacy priorities. Monitoring government activity including new legislation, regulation, inquiries and consultations for strata relevant developments. Drafting and distributing media releases, pitches and opinion pieces in line with the media relations strategy.Building positive and proactive relationships with key journalists and content creators to advance the SCA advocacy agenda.Building key government relationships with relevant ministerial, departmental and regulatory contacts. Developing relationships with industry and consumer stakeholders to advance SCA's advocacy agenda. Writing policy papers and leading submissions to government and parliamentary inquiries.Securing and attending regular advocacy meetings with government, industry and consumer stakeholders.Attending organisation and industry events.Attending and facilitating stakeholder reference groups and SCA committees. Experience Bachelor's degree in public policy, politics, communications, journalism, social science or similar.A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a similar role in an industry body, ministerial office, as departmental liaison, or as a journalist, with at least 2 years of experience at a senior level.An extensive understanding of the media landscape in NSW and Australia-wide and established contacts at major outlets.Proven experience leading government submissions and policy papers.Demonstrated experience networking and building relationships.Excellent oral and written communication skills.A well-developed understanding of government structures and processes, developed by either hands-on experience working for government, or advocating external agendas to government.The ability to develop and implement media and government relations strategies to achieve organisational goals.
