As an innovative science and technology company, we help solve some of our customers' most challenging problems.This is an exciting phase in our history and we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Technician, based in Melbourne that will see you working within our Engineering Services division.As the Mechanical Technician, your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:Assembly of fabricated/manufactured parts into products and assembles sub-assemblies to produce machines and equipmentPerform machining (manual and CNC machines), fabrication and welding as required for standard and non-standard productionIntegration of trial assemblies to platformsPerforming mechanical diagnostics and fault finding during assemblyConduct calibration, maintenance, repair and overhaul of QinetiQ products and assembliesProvide advice and guidance to professional engineers and designers, positively influencing designs and projectsSupport QA of material and sub-assemblies (inwards and outwards)Performing function and end of line checks and testsProvide input into new product development and installation guidesProvide input into operating and maintenance documentationTo be successful in the role of Mechanical Technician, you will need demonstrated experience, knowledge & skills in the following areas:Previous experience in a similar roleTrades qualification as Fitter & Turner/Toolmaker or Cert-IV in engineering or equivalentProven experience in safe maintenance and operation of industrial machinery including lathes, mills and brake pressExperience interpreting and working with assembly and/or engineering drawingsSuperior attention to detail, with complex problem solving and analytical skills, with a positive can-do attitudeAbility to work in a changing environment both forward on customer test/range environments and within a workshop environmentA strong customer focus and be driven to achieve agreed targetsOperating of waterjet machine (Preferred but not essential)Candidates will be required to obtain an Australian Government secret clearance which will require Australian citizenship.Looking for an Employer with Benefits?At QinetiQ, our competitive remuneration and benefits package supports your evolving needs throughout your career.
