We are currently recruiting a Mechanical and Piping Commissioning Superintendent for a Global Oil & Gas Operator who will be back-to-back with the current Mechanical and Piping Commissioning Superintendent.
The role is required ASAP and will be a contract until 31 March 2025 initially and will be on a 2/1 roster.
The Site Mechanical and Piping Superintendent is responsible for leading and overseeing the pre-commissioning and commissioning activities related to mechanical and piping systems in a hydrocarbon gas plant. The role ensures that all mechanical and piping systems are installed, tested, and commissioned according to project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices. The superintendent works closely with construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure the successful start-up of the plant. Key Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and oversee all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities related to mechanical and piping systems. Ensure mechanical and piping systems are installed and function according to design, safety standards, and project requirements. Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for mechanical and piping systems. System Readiness & Testing: Manage the preparation and execution of pre-commissioning tasks, such as mechanical completion checks, system flushing, and pressure testing. Ensure that all piping and mechanical systems are inspected, tested, and verified in line with project commissioning plans. Conduct and supervise hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, ensuring all results meet the required safety and operational standards. Interface & Coordination: Liaise with the commissioning team, construction, operations, and contractors to ensure smooth execution of the commissioning phases. Coordinate and manage vendor and contractor activities, ensuring their involvement aligns with project schedules and quality standards. Collaborate with other discipline leads (e.g., process, electrical) to ensure systems are integrated properly for start-up. Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all mechanical and piping commissioning activities are conducted in compliance with safety regulations, including Permit to Work (PTW) systems, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and other isolation requirements. Participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, safety reviews, and risk assessments related to mechanical and piping systems. Oversee the installation and removal of red spades, blinds, and other mechanical isolation devices to ensure safe start-up conditions. Progress Monitoring & Reporting: Track and report on the progress of mechanical and piping commissioning activities, ensuring all milestones are met in line with the project schedule. Maintain detailed documentation of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including punch lists, test records, and system handover documentation. Communicate any issues, delays, or risks to the commissioning manager and relevant stakeholders. System Handover: Lead the handover process for mechanical and piping systems, ensuring all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities are completed before transferring responsibility to the operations team.
