Join Us as a Mechanical Engineer Submariner As a Mechanical Engineer Submariner (known in the Navy as a Marine Engineering Officer Submariner), you'll be the technical expert onboard submarines.
You'll get more responsibility early in your career than most civilian engineer roles and have opportunities to travel overseas.
Your responsibilities will include: Repair and maintenance of the submarine's structures, systems, and associated mechanical services.
Managing propulsion, providing electricity, and maintaining air flow to keep the crew comfortable.
Playing a crucial part in keeping the submarine running as part of a tight-knit team.
Mechanical Engineer Submariners are a key part of the submarine's small but critical leadership team.
You will be supported in this role by a team of highly trained and professional marine technicians who work together applying their advanced skills to ensure optimal operation of the submarine.
As the Engineer onboard, being willing to step into a role as a leader and mentor is essential to excel in this position.
Mechanical Engineer Submariners are responsible for a variety of systems and structures, including, but not limited to: The submarine's structure Propulsion systems Electrical generation and distribution Domestic and associated mechanical services Main and auxiliary machinery Engines Automatic and remote-control systems Hydraulics Air conditioning and refrigeration Ventilation systems Navy Engineers not only get to lead specialised technical teams and work on advanced maritime platforms and systems but also have the opportunity to continue their professional learning throughout their careers.
The professional development you gain as a Navy Engineer enables automatic Chartered Engineer (CPEng) accreditation with Engineers Australia, giving you international recognition of your engineering competency.
