We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with experience in the mining industry to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, maintaining, and improving mechanical systems and equipment used in mining operations. This includes everything from conveyors and pumps to crushers, drill rigs, and ventilation systems.
The Mechanical Engineer (Mining) will work closely with other engineers, production teams, and contractors to ensure the optimal performance, efficiency, and safety of mechanical systems within the mining environment.
Key Responsibilities:Design and develop mechanical systems and equipment used in mining operations, including conveyors, crushers, hydraulic systems, pumping systems, fans, and ventilation equipment.Utilize 3D modeling software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA) to create detailed designs and layouts for mechanical systems.Troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend repair, modification, or replacement of equipment to ensure continuous operation.Lead or assist in mechanical engineering projects, including installation, upgrades, and system improvements.Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential mechanical hazards in mining operations.Analyze mining processes and mechanical equipment performance to identify areas for optimization and increased operational efficiency.Work closely with other engineering disciplines (such as electrical, civil, and mining engineers) to integrate mechanical systems with other infrastructure in the mine.Provide technical support and training to operational staff on equipment usage and maintenance.Qualifications:Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and mechanical systems used in mining operations.Proficiency in 3D CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation software (such as ANSYS or COMSOL).Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the mining industry or heavy industry.Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and condition-based monitoring techniques.Understanding of mining safety standards, regulations, and best practices.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, remote mining environment.Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications:Project management experience in mechanical engineering projects.Hands-on experience with mechanical equipment in a mining or industrial setting.Familiarity with automation and robotics in the mining sector.Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes.
