Scimita Ventures is an agile technology development and commercialisation business that deploys 'cutting edge science' to produce 'leading edge innovation'. Founded in 2017, Scimita is where research meets commercialisation, where academia meets creativity, a melting pot of bright minds turning ideas into reality/products.We are currently seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team and make critical contributions to our scale-up and innovation projects. This pivotal role encompasses both design and build skill sets to ensure our project teams have the right equipment, spaces, and prototypes in-hand to successfully achieve their project outcomes. The successful candidate will have generalised prototyping skills that enable them to work with third parties to deliver the physical solutions we require and will appreciate the demands that the pathway to commercialisation places on design. The main project our Mechanical Engineer will initially contribute to is focused on upscaling a novel technology for recycling lithium-ion batteries. This technology processes the 'black mass' from waste batteries into precursor material that can be re-used to manufacture new lithium-ion batteries.Key duties and responsibilities:Define the technical, safety, and client-related requirements for the equipment, spaces, prototypes, and products that are crucial to the development, testing, and scale-up activities completed in our deep tech projects.Design (including using 2D and 3D modelling tools), select, procure, build, and commission our equipment, spaces, prototypes, and products.Form and maintain meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with relevant third parties to bring your creations to life.Generate high-quality documentation such as technical documentation, specifications, design files, and testing reports for external clients and for the purposes of registering developed Intellectual Property.Run our rapid prototyping workshop.Contribute to our ongoing Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) activities.Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in our prototyping and products development services.Conduct comprehensive reviews of work submitted by project stakeholders, assessing technical accuracy and the adequacy of the solutions proposed. The ideal candidate for this job will be/have:An engineering-based bachelor's degree (at minimum) in a relevant discipline (such as mechanical engineering) or applied experience. At least 2 years of proven experience in mechanical design and product/prototype development.Proven experience in product prototyping and building physical solutions.Proficient at using 3D modelling software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.Understanding of DFM principles to enable scale-up would be advantageous.Exceedingly organised in regards to facility and equipment management.A background in equipment design for R&D-scale pilot processing plants (preferred but not essential).A demonstrable understanding of the commercialisation of technologies, products, and processes will be highly regarded.Familiarity with laboratory, R&D, and WHS standards and regulations, as well as those relating to specific-products and quality control.Comfortable with work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.Open minded and able to adapt quickly to new information and stakeholder requirements.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Highly organised with a keen eye for detail. If this opportunity is of interest and you meet the criteria above, please APPLY or email us directly at ******: Due to the high volume of applications, we won't be able to reach out to all candidates.
