Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer (known in the Navy as a Marine Engineer Officer), you'll be the ship's technical expert on marine systems.
You'll be responsible for ensuring the ship's mechanical engineering plant runs smoothly across power, propulsion and auxiliary systems.
You will be a trusted member of the ship's Command Team providing technical advice and recommendations so that the mission can be achieved.
In this dynamic engineering role, you'll be given a lot of responsibility early in your career.
Not only will you be in charge as an engineer, but you'll also be managing a team of highly trained marine technicians.
Being willing to step into a role as a leader and mentor is an essential part of what it takes to excel in this position.
Responsibilities:Mechanical Engineers are responsible for a variety of systems and structures.
Some of these include, but aren't limited to:
Ship structures like tanks, compartments and mastsPropulsion systemsElectrical generation and distributionDomestic and associated mechanical servicesMain and auxiliary machineryDiesel and gas turbine enginesAutomatic and remote-control systemsHydraulic systemsAir conditioning and refrigeration systemsVentilation systemsNavy Engineers not only get to lead specialised technical teams and work on advanced maritime platforms and systems, but they have the opportunity to continue their professional learning right throughout their career.
The professional development you gain as a Navy Engineer enables Chartered Engineer (CPEng) accreditation with Engineers Australia, giving you international recognition of your engineering competency.
