Join an Exciting Mining Development Project Mills Recruitment is looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our client's team in Brisbane. Our client is a leader in delivering high-impact projects across Australia, including mines, minerals processing facilities, LNG installations, refineries, chemical plants, power stations, procurement services, and telecommunications infrastructure.
Project Overview You will be contributing to the Ar Rjum Project, an ambitious greenfield gold mining development situated in the Central Arabian Gold Region. The project includes three open-pit mining operations with associated waste dumps, ore stockpiles, a processing plant, tailings management facilities, and essential infrastructure such as water and power supply, maintenance facilities, and accommodation villages. Located approximately 200 km northeast of Taif and 26 km south of Al Mouwayh, this project presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a remote and challenging environment.
Job Summary As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be integral to the mechanical engineering efforts on the Ar Rjum Project. You will conduct field investigations, collaborate with clients to define project scope, and develop cost estimates. Your role will involve leading the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes, ensuring that the project's complex mechanical requirements are met with precision.
Key Responsibilities Evaluate, select, and apply mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria for small to medium-sized projects. Design, develop, modify, and evaluate mechanical components and processes according to Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs). Lead the design of mechanical systems for materials handling, including crushers, screens, conveyors, launders, splitter boxes, tanks, and pumps. Conduct calculations and preliminary analyses to support technical design decisions. Prepare material requisitions, specifications, and other procurement-related documents. Assist in evaluating suppliers and conducting technical bid evaluations. Coordinate with mechanical designers to develop layouts for crushing plants, screening plants, conveyors, and slurry handling systems. Apply chute design methods, with knowledge of continuum and discrete element modeling being advantageous. Prepare conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals. Oversee the preparation of detailed design drawings, calculations, and reports. Coordinate mechanical engineering efforts with various stakeholders, including specialty groups, engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, contractors, and construction teams. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineering personnel. Offer technical assistance to project and construction management, ensuring compliance with project mechanical requirements. Complete mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. About You Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering with 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience. Extensive experience in minerals handling process plant design, specifically in slurry pumping and handling, conveyor systems, chute design, and tank sizing, preferably within gold or copper minerals processing facilities. Proficient in the Bid Evaluate Award process, including equipment datasheet preparation, specification writing, material requisition, and technical bid evaluation of vendor equipment. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the MS Office suite and other common engineering software. Ability to work effectively in both individual and team settings, with experience in dynamic, multi-discipline team environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in developing quantity estimates. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
