In this role, you will plan, develop, and review mechanical design work, produce technical drawings, 3D models and design documentation including material take-offs, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions and design reviews, review vendor information, project and client design specifications and collaborating discipline design inputs. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure mechanical designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Major Responsibilities: Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a small-size Mechanical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of tanks, conveyors, chutes and platework, mechanical equipment supports, foundations, and steel detailing Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of Mechanical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management Prepares or oversees the preparation of Mechanical design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work Reviews key Mechanical engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries Mentors Mechanical designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development Ensures Mechanical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards Education and Experience Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in computer-assisted design (preferred, not mandatory) 10 years of relevant experience in minerals processing plant mechanical design drafting and 3D modeling Required Knowledge and Skills: Bulk materials handling experience essential Experience in the design of conveyors and layout development of transfer stations is essential Proven experience in engineering design tools such as Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and Navisworks Strong communication skills and ability to work well with other team members Work with Senior designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements
