Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community-based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding regions. More information can be found on the CHS website .
The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children is the level 6 tertiary referral centre for the ACT and surrounding region with over 3700 births. It has a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a regional role extending throughout southern NSW and over 200 level 3 admissions each year.
The Fetal Medicine Unit provides MFM subspecialty patient care with consultations, diagnostic services, invasive procedures, counselling, and multidisciplinary management of high risk pregnancies and assessment and management of pregnancies complicated by fetal anomalies. It relies on a team of MFM subspecialists,, a highly skilled team of sonographers, a dedicated team of midwives who provide high risk pregnancy care, and close relationship with Neonatology, paediatric surgery, genetic counsellors and social workers. A wide range of specialised Obstetric clinics are offered, including maternal medicine/high risk pregnancy clinics, preterm birth clinic, preconception counselling clinic, combined obstetric anaesthetics clinic and perinatal loss clinics.
This position also hasaccess to all the relevant multidisciplinary areas of MFM training such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Adult ICU, Pathology Department, Emergency Department, Operating theatre and genetics clinics. There is an on call component for successful applications, either on the senior registrar roster, or the consultant roster depending on the applicant's level.This role may also involve some time spent in general O&G department depending on needs of the successful applicant and department.

This position will be an Accredited Postgraduate Fellow in Maternal Fetal Medicine (see requirements below). This is a full time (1.0 FTE) appointment starting as soon as possible until the end of the 2024 clinical year (February 2025) with the possibility of extension for a further 12 months. Salary and conditions of service are in accordance with the current ACT Public Sector Medical Practitioners Union Collective Agreement. This position is inclusive of shift work which is undertaken outside normal working hours.
Duties: 1. Attend to rostered duties, which primarily sit within the Fetal Medicine Unit. Other duties may include care of patients on the Birthing Suite, inpatient ward areas, outpatient clinics and the operating theatre
2. Participate in on call duties or after hours MFM and/or O&G roster relevant to level
3. Report regularly all matters of significance to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and Clinical Director;
4. To be responsible for co-ordinating the weekly High Risk meeting;
5. Participate in quality improvement, peer review and research programs;
6. Participate in the lecturing and training of junior medical staff, medical students, Allied Health staff and nurses; and
7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications: MBBS degree and registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); · To be appointed as a Postgraduate Fellow you must have been appointed to a training position for Maternal Fetal Medicine through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) You will be remunerated with an on call allowance in addition to your salary
· If successful candidate has their Fellowship through RANZCOG the expectation would be that on call requirements would be on the consultant roster. If successful candidates are yet to gain a Fellowship through RANZCOG the expectation would be that on call requirements would be on the registrar roster.
Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to: · Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening & vaccination processes
· Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
What you require: These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:
1. Ability to balance training and education requirements with service provision, within the limitations of a busy public health service;
2. Sufficient experience and availability to participate in the after-hours on-call O&G roster;
3. Demonstrable interpersonal, communication and team building skills appropriate to work in a multidisciplinary clinical environment;
4. Sufficient experience to supervise junior medical staff independently;
5. Experience with clinical research and writing of scientific papers;
6. Experience in fetal medicine units and proficiency of ultrasound will be preferred; and
7. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS's values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
